What you will learn

  • Use the global quick actions and search
  • Review edits in a personal object view
  • Assign linked checklist steps
  • Configure and test a private customer space
  • Track BU setup progress

A team brings new customers on board, follows their orders and needs one clear place for requests.

Lesson 1

Find and create in context

The header Search & create button and Ctrl/⌘ K open BU-scoped quick actions. Search lists records your role can view and offers creation only where your role has object and create access. Selecting a match navigates to its object list and searches for that record. The New action opens the existing record form, so its field validation and BU rules still apply.

Lesson 2

Review spreadsheet edits before saving

Choose Paged table or a saved view in an object list. Select an editable value and enter a change. Amber cells are drafts on your device until you open Review changes and save them. The review shows the old and new values by record. Each record uses its normal backend validation and access rules. If a row fails, review the error and correct or discard it; a successful row is kept. Formula, relationship, system and hidden fields remain read only. The standard record editor is available for complex edits.

Lesson 3

Assign a record checklist

Record checklists work on Contacts, Companies, Deals, Cases, Orders and permitted custom objects. Choose a record, create one to fifteen steps and optionally assign an active BU team member with a due date. An assigned step creates a linked Task and sends the configured task notification to its assignee. Completing or reopening the checklist step updates its linked Task. The checklist is visible only inside the same BU and honors object permissions.

Lesson 4

Offer customers a private space

A Settings manager opens Pages → Customer portal to set a headline, introduction, logo and accent color, then enables the portal. The standard URL uses the BU code. A customer requests a one-use email link that expires in 15 minutes; its private session expires in 24 hours. Their orders and service requests are queried by their Contact ID inside that BU. The business chooses the order fields shown, the cancellation, return and exchange windows in days, and any custom objects whose records have a field holding the Contact ID. Only selected custom fields appear, and records are filtered to that Contact in the same BU. Newly created Orders store their own cancellation deadline from placement; the return and exchange windows start when the order is fulfilled. An older Order without stored deadlines uses the current BU settings. Returns and exchanges require a physical product and an eligible fulfilled Order. A customer request opens a Web service case and leaves the order status unchanged until staff review it; staff use the existing order status action to preserve stock and coupon accounting. Creating an Order, changing its status and changing a case status send customer notifications when the portal is enabled and a valid Contact email exists. The email links to the BU portal, where the customer requests a secure sign-in link. Customers can submit a service request and update their name or phone number. The Contact email is the sign-in identity and cannot be changed from the portal. Test with a real Contact email and a linked order or case. Disable the portal to stop new access and notices.

Lesson 5

Use the setup guide as progress

Setup guide checks live records and configuration in the current BU, including contacts, team, email, preferences, pages, flows and portal. Only actions permitted to your role appear. The dashboard shows remaining steps, and the full guide links to each module. Opening a page alone does not complete a step; save the underlying record or configuration and refresh to update progress.
